Sex trafficking, often called a modern form of slavery, is one of the largest and fastest growing criminal industries in the world. All commercial sexual exploitation is illegal. One in every three sex trafficking victims forced into prostitution is a minor under the age of 18, changing the path of a child’s life forever.
The driving force behind commercial sexual exploitation, including sex trafficking, is the demand for commercial sex. Buyers who create that demand must be held accountable for their role in enabling sex trafficking and other forms of commercial sexual exploitation. Buying sex is not a victimless crime.
Buyers ultimately are the cause of these terrible crimes against human dignity because the money buyers spend is what fuels the demand for sex trafficking victims. If nobody purchased individuals for sex, the crime of sex trafficking would not exist. That is why Kansas must foster a culture in which the buying and selling of human beings for sexual gratification is not acceptable.
To work toward the goal of eliminating demand, Kansas has partnered with Demand an End, a national project that works to discourage demand for commercial sex - especially with children.
More than 60 partners, including government agencies, law enforcement, business organizations, social service organizations and civic organizations, have joined the Demand an End effort as partners to bring attention to this issue in Kansas communities.
